The Janus Gate is conceived as a hub for interdisciplinary studies of liminality in its broadest sense. Liminal research is focused on shifting the paradigm from one of marginality to one of liminality, on exploring the interstices between what is considered ‘canonical’ and what is left out of it. Such a critical gaze has demonstrated that, by focusing on what lies in the in-between, the perspective from the limen allows us to reexamine what were previously conceived as solid borders. The Janus Gate is thus born as an attempt to promote research and unify varying strands of critical thought which explore the concept of the threshold in both image and text.
